Service The other night for Relief Society we did a service project for some refugee children that live in Utah from Myanmar (Burma). Our ward collected pillows, pillowcases, socks, candy, books, soda, oranges, and blankets for 80 children. They were so happy and excited. The children sang songs and did a little Christmas program for us. It was such a great night. I was filled with the spirit and so happy!

Dreaming...

I forgot day 17 and 18
Day 17- Someone who you would want to switch lives with for one day and why.

Hmmm. I think I would want to switch lives with Lindsey Vonn for one day. She is an AMAZING skier. She won the gold medal for downhill in 2010. She was the first American to win the gold medal for downhill skiing. I think she is the best skier ever. She competes in all four skiing events. I would love to be as good as she is. I would love to see how it feels to fly down the mountain with speed and accuracy. She is great! I want to ski all over the world.

Nicknames

Day 19-Nicknames you have and why you have them

When I was really little my parents called me Pixie Dixie. They say thats what little Texans are called (I was born in Houston, Texas). My friends and family almost always call me, and most common nickname is Shar. A few people called me Sharzard (apparently my name sounds like a Pokemon character- Charizard) or Charly (probably from the movie/book). My older sister called me Sherlock (especially if I said Captain Obvious comments acting like it was a new discovery- like "No duh Sherlock!" When I did study abroad in Mexico I had the most nicknames- Guera (blondie- EVERYONE called me this, even people I didnt know)
According to the Uraban Dictionary (and Mexicans, based on my experience)
1. guera means: spanish for fair or light skinned (feminine)
More nicknames in Monterrey included Lupita (my ward called me this...not sure why), Charolette, Charlenay (basically my name in a Spanish accent). In college a few people called me Shar Bear. Matt calls me Shar Bear, baby duck, and honey bear becuase he loves me. I love my nick names and also love my name.

Why I Blog

Day 12-How you found out about blogger and why you have one

My sisters- Melinda and Jessica and my cousins Natalie, Emily and Camille all had blogs on blogger that I loved to stalk, I mean read. But I had facebook and email and thought only oldies used blogs.

But then I went to Mexico for study abroad. Not having a cell phone, texting or a laptop for 6 months pretty much forced me to make a blog to keep my family updated with pictures and keep me sane (I love sharing my stories and getting feedback) So a blog was a perfect solution. I'd go to the computer lab at UDEM (Universidad de Monterrey) like everyday to spill the many details of my Mexican adventures through emails, facebook and my new BLOG. My first blog was http://lifeofsharlene.blogspot.com/. I loved it so much I kept blogging when I got back home and have been doing it ever since. When Matt and I got engaged I started this blog! (Now I'm kinda addicted and love blogging!)

Day 10- Music

Day 10-Songs you listen to when you're bored, happy, sad, mad, hyped

Whenever I'm really sad or mad I like to drive in my car and blast (now dont laugh!) the Hilary Duff songs on the Lizzie McGuire soundtrack.

My favorite songs on that CD, "The tide is high" "You make me feel like a Star" "Girl in the Band" "Why Not" and "What Dreams are Made of."

When I'm happy (or mostly anytime) I like to listen to All American Rejects, Brand New, Mae, Lady Gaga, Fall Out Boy, Shania Twain, Kings of Leon, Neon Trees, Brandon Flowers, Taylor Swift and I've recently really liked Mike Posner.

When I'm bored or its too quiet at work I love listening to Cartel (they're my favorite!) and Kelly Clarkson. I love www.pandora.com.

And of course everyday of December I listen to Christmas Music! It just makes my day and brings in the Christmas spirit.
I love a lot of different music. Matt basically taught me how to love music. My all time favorite music is when he sings and plays guitar.

F-A-M-I-L-Y

Day 9-Something you're proud of in the past few days
For some reason this post took me forever. I was having too much fun over Thanksgiving break. Something I'm proud of is keeping good relationships with my family. I talk to one of my sisters, mom. dad or brother almost everyday. I love my husband. I visited my Grandma Witt two Fridays ago, went to my grandma and grandpa Dickson's for Thanksgiving dinner/lunch and had dessert and games with Matts family that night. We saw the movie Tangled. Its so cute. A Disney classic. I love my families (mine and Matt's) and I'm SO grateful for them!

Another thing I'm proud of is Matt and I rode on the Big Shot at the Stratosphere! So fun and so scary. Here are some awesome pictures from our weekend trip.I wish the pic above was bigger cuz it is HILARIOUS and real. That was how we look when the ride blasted off. haha.
Matt and I had a little vacation to Las Vegas. We saw the Penn & Teller magic show,
ate delicious food and had tons of fun. We have been married for 6 months. Time Flys! I love life.
We just found out today- Matt is getting hired on with Okland Construction and going to get a raise!! I'm so proud of him!

Impact

Day 7-A picture of someone/something that has the biggest impact on you

Matthew is the person that has had the most impact on my life. We've had so many fun times since High School and have also overcome many challenges through our years together and apart.
Getting married is the biggest event and decision that had the biggest impact on my life. Getting married teaches you to become more selfless, patient and understanding.
Thank you Matt (even though you dont read this) I am who I am today because of you. I love you!

I read my friend Malae's blog and got a few ideas and seem to agree with her.

"There is something about marriage that really makes you come to a realization of who you really are. Marriage exploits all of your weaknesses, strengths, short-comings, habits, and even some characteristics your never knew you had. I have discovered more about myself than I ever had before in my life when I transitioned from being a Miss to a Mrs. I have come to understand the meaning of "settling down".

There is something about the absolute necessity to put your spouse's needs before yours that makes you understand what you need to improve on. Humility, gratitude, patience...the list goes on and on.

There is something about becoming fully responsible for the bills, finances, insurance, meals, shelter, clothing, and nurturing your family that makes you realize that you are no longer that person you once were. Your life of depending on your parents is no longer. You have your own family now. It's a weird feeling.

So yes, the transition from Stage 1 (single) to Stage 2 (married) in my life had the biggest impact on me so far."

HARRY POTTER

Day 6-Favorite super hero and why
OKay I know I know. Harry Potter isnt really a "super" hero. But he's a hero and super awesome in my book. Tonight Matt and I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I LOVE him! I loved the movie and I cant wait until part 2 comes out!

He is amazing. He has overcome a lot of trials in his life and developed into a great character. He shows that the right thing and the thing he has to do are not always, actually almost never, the easiest way. I love Hermione and Ron too.

My favorite SuperHero is probably Batman. I also like FLash. I like Batman because he is a regular person without supernatural powers. He works hard physically and intellectually to become who he is. He always fights crime and I love the movie Batman Begins.

But all in all I love HARRY POTTER more than any super hero I think.
